Glencadam Distillery

MBLA prepared design proposals for the external landscape associated with the new Visitor Centre and VIP Suite at Glencadam Distillery by JM Architects on behalf of Angus Dundee Distillers.
The landscape proposals include the approach path to Visitor Centre from the car park, and planting to the terraces and warehouses.
The hardstanding includes whinstone setts and cubes and Denfind flag paving, locally quarried at Pitairlie Quary, Monikie, Angus by Denfind Stone. The use of Angus sandstone, with pinkish hues is of particular importance as it matches the original stone used in the historic distillery buildings, and Brechin townscape.
The car park is constructed in porous pavers filled with contrasting silver and pink granite.
The planting comprises a meadow area fronting the warehouses, seeded with Mavisbank seed mix from local suppliers of wild flora Scotia Seeds in Brechin.
The meadow are includes trees selected for their autumn foliage interest and upright habit. Tree species include the Chinese Red Birch, Chinese Scarlet Rowan, Field Maple William Caldwell, Katsura tree, Lebanese Wild Apple and Sweetgum. Trees were selected to reference the tasting notes of the Glencadam whiskies.
The terraces are planted with Scottish varieties of ling and bell heathers, selected and supplied by Tay Heathers.
Construction completed spring 2026.
